Ambient lighting & game immersion for Windows

Play beyond the screen.

Backbloom follows your screen in real time and spills its colors onto your walls through the LED strips and smart lights around you. Movies feel bigger. Games feel closer.

Works with every game. No mods, no plugins: it only watches the screen.

Live demo: the glow is worked out from the picture, like Backbloom does. Switch it off to compare.

Two modes, one app

Calm for movie night. Fierce for the fight.

One switch at the top of the app. Each mode keeps its own feel, so your movie night never inherits your raid settings.

Ambient

For movies, music and everyday use. Your room breathes with the picture, softly and smoothly.

  • Pick a Mood: Relaxed, Natural or Rich
  • Screen sync, music, effects or a single color
  • Built for HDR, with tone mapping for HDR films and games

Features

Every LED knows where it is.

01

Screen sync, HDR included

Backbloom captures your screen on the GPU and maps each edge of the picture to the LEDs behind it. HDR games and films are tone mapped, so the light matches what you see instead of washing out. It never touches the game itself.

02

Your room, mapped

Draw your strips where they really are, on your walls, ceiling and desk, around your monitor or TV. Pick a ready-made shape or drag the bends yourself. Each LED repeats the part of the screen it faces.

Gaming room where the wall, the ceiling strip and the desk strip glow orange on the left and teal on the right, like the picture
03

Music that moves the room

Nine music effects react to whatever is playing on your PC, or to a microphone. Give the ceiling the beat while the screen strip follows the picture.

04

Profiles for every game

Add your games and Backbloom switches to Game mode when one starts. Profiles give strips other roles while a program runs: the whole screen on the ceiling in your racer, a calm color in your editor.

05

Set up in minutes, tuned for years

Stick a strip behind your screen, plug in the controller, and Backbloom's search finds WLED controllers on your network. Three short steps and the lights are on. White balance, calibration and a power limit wait under Setup when you want them.

Questions

I'm new to LED lights. What do I need?

A Windows 10 or 11 PC (Mac and Linux are planned) and something to light: usually an LED strip behind your screen with a small Wi-Fi controller (WLED) and a power supply, or smart bulbs and panels you already own. A ready-made controller needs no soldering, and if you tell us your setup in the beta form, we'll point you to gear that fits.

Will it work with my Hue, Nanoleaf or Govee lights?

Philips Hue (through the Hue Bridge), Nanoleaf, LIFX, WiZ, Yeelight, WLED and USB backlight kits like Skydimo work today, and you can mix brands in one setup. Govee is planned, both for models with LAN control and for older Bluetooth ones. Keyboard, mouse and PC case RGB are planned too.

Is it safe with anti-cheat? Can it get me banned?

Backbloom never reads game memory, injects into a game or needs a mod. It only watches the screen and listens to the sound, the same way recording and streaming apps do. That's also why it works with any game.

Will it lower my FPS or lag behind the game?

Screen capture and scaling run on your graphics card; on our test PC, 168 LEDs at 60 frames a second took about 1.3% of one CPU core. In Game mode the screen is read at least 60 times a second and LED strips keep up; smart bulbs update more slowly (Hue about 25 times a second), so they're best for setting the room's mood. If a game ever stutters, the app keeps a performance record on your PC that you can send us.

Does it work with HDR, Netflix, a TV or my console?

It follows whatever your PC shows, HDR included, on a monitor or on a TV plugged into the PC. Some streaming apps block screen capture, so their videos can't be followed. A console only works if its picture goes through your PC.

Why not Hue Sync or my lights' own app?

Those drive one brand. Backbloom drives strips, bulbs and panels from many brands at once, lets you draw your strips where they really are in your room, and has a Game mode that turns on by itself when your game starts.

What will it cost?

The beta is free. We'll announce pricing before the full release, and beta testers will hear first.

When are haptics and wind coming? Should I buy a shaker now?

They're planned after game events, with no dates yet. Hold off on buying: we'll list tested gear for them once Backbloom supports it. Pick Haptics or Wind in the beta form so we know you're waiting.

Your room is a bigger screen.
